Digital Hippie (Savitha Bala) has always been surrounded by the arts. Although she was raised in California, she was taught classical Indian dance and music from an early age. She even learned how to play the Veena, a giant string instrument. Growing up in the 70‘s and 80‘s in a global environment, she was exposed to every kind of music, from the Beatles, Ravi Shankar, and the Grateful Dead to Pink Floyd, even Michael Jackson.

Having always been a creative individual, she left to study Fine Arts in the deep South. Here, she was influenced by more genres of music — Jazz, Blues, Zydeco. She loved all these different styles, but something was missing.

In the late 90’s, she travelled to Goa. And found herself. She became a part of the Goa trance scene and travelled all over the world, going to musical festivals like Antaris, the Boom, Ozora, and Sonica. After a while, she realized that this music was her calling. Digital Hippie was born.

Getting her first break in Hollywood, Digital Hippie has never looked back. Spinning her own unique style of electronic music, which has been proven to cause Dance Floor Mania, this versatile DJ draws mainly from the genres of progressive and psychedelic trance. In 2010-11 alone, Digital Hippie has shared the stage with artists such as Ace Ventura, Liquid Soul, Emok/Maelstrom, Tristan, Celli/Earthling, Chameleon, Fog, Giuseppe, Domino, Nigel, Ma Faiza, and many others. Digital Hippie has been a part of FriedBeats Music since 2007. Rather than belonging to any one place, she considers herself a citizen of the world.
